Good navigability and immediate accessibility

The port's prominent location and good year-round navigability are both a practical and an economic advantage for shipping. When looking for a port on the east coast of Jutland, the journey to Grenaa offers particularly good accessibility. Entry is via the port's 0.7 nautical mile long and 12 metre deep fairway, where both larger and smaller vessels can enter the port efficiently and safely.

Location and basins

The location of Grenaa harbor is 56°24.4'N 10°55.5'E. The port consists of the outer harbor, ferry harbor, south harbor (basins II and III), fishing harbor (basin I) and north harbor (basins IV and V) - the latter with a water depth of up to 11 meters.

Current

With good weather, a regular current runs along the coast. The current changes every 6 hours. Northward current is predominant, southward current is usually weak. Speed usually max. 0.5 knots. Tidal range: 0.25 m +/-. Wind conditions: normally V-SW.

The pilot has special knowledge of Danish waters, including the Kattegat, where Grenaa has a prominent location with good sailing conditions.
