Helm Scandinavia and Bioman in Partnership: Promoting Green Transition with Methanol at Grenaa Port.
Helm Scandinavia and Bioman have entered into a groundbreaking partnership that marks an important step in the green transition at the Port of Grenaa. With methanol as a greener alternative to conventional fuels, the collaboration strengthens both the companies' position and the port's role as a central energy hub for future sustainable fuels.
Morten Kristensen, Business Manager at Helm Scandinavia:
"Methanol is an essential part of the green transition and we are proud of our partnership with Bioman here in Grenaa. The new methanol plant, which is already in operation, allows us to supply the market with both fossil and green methanol, which is one of the cleanest fuels you can use in both marine and land-based industries. We expect significant growth in this area as the need for green methanol increases globally."
Helm Scandinavia, which is both ISCC Plus and ISCC EU certified, now has the opportunity to offer green methanol to the shipping industry. Morten Kristensen adds: "Our ambition is for the Port of Grenaa to become an important partner for supplying methanol to ships that need to refuel here in the port."
René Svenningsen, Operations Manager at Bioman:
"The new plant we have built is state of the art and fully complies with all safety and environmental standards. We have experienced impressive growth here at the Port of Grenaa over the past seven years, and this methanol project is an excellent example of how we continue to develop. The collaboration with Helm Scandinavia has been a key driver in this development."
René also highlights the long-standing relationship between Bioman and Helm Scandinavia, which has helped them to offer innovative green energy solutions today.
Henrik Carstensen, CEO at Port of Grenaa:
"We are proud to be part of this partnership, which not only strengthens the green transition, but also cements the role of the Port of Grenaa as a strategic hub for methanol distribution in Scandinavia. From the beginning, we have worked closely with Bioman in the development of the plant and in the dialog with Norddjurs Municipality. We look forward to continuing the good cooperation and playing a central role in promoting the use of both gray and green methanol."
Henrik Carstensen emphasizes that the Port of Grenaa is ready to expand its role as an energy hub for Methanol in both the maritime sector and other industries in the future. "We expect Methanol to play a crucial role in the maritime sector by 2030, and we are already well on our way."
This partnership demonstrates the Port of Grenaa's commitment to the green transition and contributes to making Djursland an important player in the Nordic market for green energy.

The emergency response network at Grenaa Harbor
On Tuesday, November 12, the first regular meeting of the Emergency Response Network was held at the Port of Grenaa, where 30 representatives from a wide range of companies at the port met to strengthen cooperation on emergency response, safety and the environment.
The network, which was started about a year ago, has been a direct response to the growing realization of how important it is for port businesses to know each other's resources and be able to collaborate quickly in the event of incidents. There was a lot of interest and support from the participants, who recognized the importance of a strong emergency response network, both to handle future crises and to create closer cooperation between the different actors at the port.
The steering committee, consisting of representatives from Stena Recycling A/S, Stena Line, Rohde Nielsen and the Port of Grenaa, was established after the kick-off meeting last year and is now in the process of further developing the network and the upcoming activities that will help strengthen preparedness across the companies.
The network includes both large and small players, all working closely together to build a robust preparedness structure. We are excited about the ideas and collaborative initiatives that will come out of these meetings and look forward to sharing experiences and knowledge that can help keep people, the environment and business safe at the port.
Japanese delegation visits Port of Grenaa
We recently had the pleasure of welcoming a Japanese delegation to the Port of Grenaa, organized by State of Green Denmark, Denmark's official green brand.
State of Green Denmark works to strengthen international awareness of the solutions and competencies that Danish business and industry offers within energy, water, climate adaptation and environment.
The delegation, consisting of officials from various Japanese municipalities, was here to learn about the execution of wind projects and our role as a logistics hub.
Part of the visit included a trip to Anholt Offshore Wind Farm, where they gained insight into the potential of wind energy and the practical experiences from our projects.
We hope it was an inspiring and educational day for everyone involved and we are proud to share our expertise and contribute to the global green transition 🌿
The Kattegat Alliance visits the Port of Grenaa
Yesterday, the Port of Grenaa had the pleasure of welcoming Cecilie Victoria Schierbeck, Head of Department STABADM from Norddjurs Municipality, and Development Consultant Eddie Hansson from Halmstad Municipality (far right). They were accompanied by Carl-Henrik Hägg, CEO of Hallands Havne (second from left).
The visit was part of the Kattegat Alliance - a collaboration that strengthens the links between the two municipalities via the ferry route operated by Stena Line. The purpose of the alliance is to exchange experiences and ideas that can make the ports of arrival much more than just terminals. The focus is on creating a good framework for both tourism and business so that ferry visitors don't just pass through, but choose to stay and experience the local attractions.
Henrik Carstensen, CEO of the Port of Grenaa (far left), presented the port's long-term strategy to create growth and opportunities in the local area. It was a valuable dialog where we work together to create economic and tourist development on both sides of the Kattegat.
This collaboration is an important part of our shared ambition to make Grenaa and Halmstad destinations that attract both tourists and businesses. We look forward to continuing the strong collaboration and creating new opportunities for both regions.

Ports of the Future: Ready for the Green Transition - Political action is now required.
Earlier this week, the long-awaited port report from the Port Partnership was presented to the Minister of Transport and Business in Kalundborg. At the Port of Grenaa, we are very excited to see how the Government and the Danish Parliament will follow up, as the report's recommendations are crucial for the future of Danish ports - including the Port of Grenaa.
Among other things, the report highlights that Danish commercial ports are strong in the competition for growth and employment related to offshore wind construction towards 2030. However, to handle the expected volume of wind turbines by 2050, extensive upgrades to port infrastructure are needed - including deeper shipping channels and stronger quays. Ships are getting bigger and space is becoming a challenge, so it's important that we get political support to ensure proper funding and faster regulatory approvals.
Henrik Carstensen, CEO Port of Grenaa, says:
"The report presented is absolutely essential for Danish ports, and therefore another call from the Port of Grenaa for the government and the Danish Parliament to take the recommendations seriously. If we ports are to be ready to lead the green transition, it requires action now."
