Vattenfall skal bygge Hesselø

An important milestone

Vattenfall to build Hesselø

Vattenfall Vindkraft A/S has been appointed as the winner of the tender for the Hesselø Offshore Wind Farm in the Kattegat north of Zealand.

The park is planned to have a capacity of between 0.8 and 1.2 GW. It is scheduled to produce electricity from 2032 and is expected to be fully operational by the end of the same year.

The Port of Grenaa congratulates Vattenfall on the award and hopes that the project can form the basis for a close and value-creating collaboration.

Projektet

Energinet gennemførte i 2023–2024 forundersøgelser for Hesselø Havvindmøllepark.

Tidsplan
Fra ny placering til grøn strøm
The project
Hesselø Offshore Wind Farm

The Hesselø Offshore Wind Farm will be established in the Kattegat north of Zealand and will have a capacity of between 0.8 and 1.2 GW. Vattenfall has been selected as the winner of the tender and will be responsible for the development, construction and operation of the farm. The offshore wind farm is planned to produce electricity from 2032 and is expected to be finally commissioned by the end of the same year.

With its strategic location in the Kattegat, specialized facilities and experience from, among other things, the Anholt Offshore Wind Farm, the Port of Grenaa is ready to engage in dialogue with Vattenfall, suppliers and other stakeholders about possible collaboration.

Udbud
Vattenfall is named the winner

The new tender was published on 20 November 2025 with a bid deadline of 20 May 2026. The Danish Energy Agency received five bids.

On 4 August 2026, Vattenfall was named the winner with a price of DKK 542 per MWh. The next step is contract signature, once the final documentation check and tender formalities have been completed.

Preparatory studies
The basis for the specific project

Energinet carried out feasibility studies for the Hesselø Offshore Wind Farm in 2023–2024.

The studies include, among other things, seabed, wind conditions and the environment in the planning area, as well as possible cable corridors at sea and on land. The results reduce project risk and form the basis for Vattenfall’s further design and environmental impact assessment.

Environmental assessments
From overall plan to specific project

The plan for Hesselø has been environmentally assessed and was adopted by the Danish Energy Agency on June 26, 2024. The plan was updated on November 18, 2025.

The specific project will also undergo an environmental impact assessment of both the offshore facilities and the relevant onshore facilities. Vattenfall will prepare the assessment, and the public will be involved through new consultations.

Facilities
An offshore wind farm of 0.8–1.2 GW

Hesselø Offshore Wind Farm will be established in the Kattegat north of Zealand and will have a capacity of between 0.8 and 1.2 GW depending on Vattenfall’s final project.

The plan includes offshore wind turbines, one or more offshore transformer platforms and submarine cables as well as cables, high-voltage installations and any grid reinforcements on land. The specific design, including the size and number of turbines, will be determined through Vattenfall’s further design and regulatory processing.

Connection
The electricity is fed into the Danish electricity grid

Hesselø is planned to be connected to the grid at Hovegård High Voltage Station.

The connection includes submarine cables from the offshore wind farm, cables and high-voltage installations on land, as well as any necessary reinforcements of the electricity grid. The final solution will be determined in the further design and regulatory processing.
