Historically, infrastructure to and from the port has been a high priority focus for Port of Grenaa. Especially in the recent period, when for a long time it did not seem to go Djursland's way with upgrades and improvements to the transport area. Intensive work to get politicians' attention focused on Djursland has now borne partial fruit, in the now agreed infrastructure plan for 2022-2035.
Positivism in evidence at Port of Grenaa
Despite the fact that the Port of Grenaa's prioritized wish for a 2-1 high class road from Tåstrup all the way to Grenaa was not fulfilled this time around, there is positivism to be found in Henrik Carstensen, CEO Port of Grenaa.
"In the wake of the port's prosperity in recent years and Stena Line's plans to double capacity on the Grenaa-Halmstad link, we expect a massive increase in heavy traffic on Djursland, to and from Grenaa. That is why we are keen to focus on upgrading the A15 as a first priority. We at the port are pleased that more political thought is now being given to upgrading the southbound route to and from Grenaa. We are therefore looking forward to the expected upgrading of route 15 between Bale and Tåstrup," says Henrik Carstensen.
Two planned bypasses on the A15
In the infrastructure agreement 2021, the parties have reached a settlement on two bypasses of four kilometres north of Tirstrup and four kilometres east of Trustrup.
"With the two planned bypasses at Tirstrup and Trustrup, traffic will positively flow better. It is very important for our logistics companies that goods can be transported efficiently to and from the port. Such significant infrastructure changes will always have an impact on the surrounding area, including locally. From the port's point of view, and with a deep-rooted desire to continue strengthening and developing our local area, this upgrade is an important parameter for our customers and partners," notes Henrik Carstensen.
Focus on even better infrastructure maintained
Port of Grenaa continues the active political dialogue on an even better infrastructure in Djursland. Henrik Carstensen sees an opportunity to continue influencing the DKK 3.5 billion pool, which has not yet been prioritised for specific projects.
"As we see it, we lack, with the new infrastructure agreement, relatively short stretches in having a well upgraded and modern road system, south of Grenaa. Therefore, we are not sitting back, rather the opposite. We intend to maintain our intensive focus on continuous and ongoing upgrades of the infrastructure on Djursland", concludes Henrik Carstensen.
Ports are hubs for climate-friendly transport
In the Infrastructure Plan for 2035 Denmark Forward, better access roads to the Danish ports is a direct focus area. Especially as ports are hubs for climate-friendly transport by sea. Port of Grenaa can alleviate some of the congestion on the roads and at the same time help the environment by getting more trucks out to sea. Grenaa has an important link to Sweden with the Grenaa-Halmstad connection. Right now, more than 37,000 trucks a year use the blue motorway between Grenaa and Halmstad. When Stena Line introduces another ferry, it is estimated that an additional 30,000 trucks will use the ferry route. In addition, there will be tourism-related traffic.
